One day...One location 09/03/04

Today was one location....and one long day. We only had three scenes to pound out, and Mark (Director of Photography) and I knew it would be a full one.

We wanted to treat the hospital scenes a specific way, which included single continuous shots, not multiple cuts...and utilizing the lack of color of our awesome older Singaporean hospital to punctuate the moment in the story. Every location has a color design, stimulating a sense to the viewer. In this situation, lack of color is also playing an important part in the cumulative effect of story telling.

Regardless of the day only being three simple scenes, it consumed all of our creative efforts and attention. Art Department, Wardrobe, Casting, Continuity...we all had a long and challenging day. Cast wise, it consisted of Mako Iwamatsu, Zelda Rubinstein, Tah Kheng Hua, Dickson Tan, and Bobby Tonelli, along with a hand full fo extras, a doctor, some nurses and a medic. Asrani, our Bollywood star, who plays LEO was the only one not in this set of scenes. He's a very funny and interesting guy...with 118 feature films under his belt. We'll get to work with him later this week.

Tomorrow seems like a nightmare in comparison. We're shooting in 4 different locations. I don't think the shots will be as complicated as those in the hospital...but regardless, it's going to be a long day.

The schedule is beginning to take a toll on our energy levels. When we look at the number of days ahead, and the amount of material we need to cover, it's almost too much. For now, we're all just taking one day at a time. One day...One location.
