Cages for everyone
08/29/04
Okay, so we've had some good and bad. (laugh)
Shooting on location is always a tricky thing. We've been spoiled with a closed set, controlled environment for the first 5 days of shooting...but now we've hit the open road.
Between traffic logistics, spectators, and just good old bad timing, everyone is feelign the crunch of time.
We managed to pull off a huge stunt with little Dickson Tan standing in the middle of an intersection. Okay, that sounds not too bad, but then add a 30 foot crane and 40 people crossing the street...and consider the profection of Mark Lapwood (DP). Oh yes, it was a challenge.
We did a series of other shoots where Bobby Tonelli (Ethan) searches the city. That wasn't so bad. We managed to get through it fairly painlessly.
Our huge drama internally now is lack of sleep. Everyone is working on empty. Our shoots for the exterior of the bird shop are taking a toll on our team spirit. We are trying to get through it. Sudden changes in lighting, traffic and more traffic, and a limited time frame to get a lot of material is keeping us on our toes. Once we get through this, we are home free...well...we are in a controlled environment where we can take our time, and really pound out the material in a way that feels more organized.
The team is doing so good. I really feel for them. I myself have gone the last 36 hours sleepless. We broke at noon today, and resume again at 2am. A few days of this craziness and we can all have a 24 hour break. It is so needed.
The only thing keeping us going is the truly wonderful team spirit of our cast. Mako and Zelda, both in their 70s are demonstrating to us all that the story is worth staying up late and working long for. Sure, they just started...but they can see how hard we are working...and they appreciate it as well.
Hang in there team. I promise you we, collectively, are making an excellent film.
