Penny 07/26/04

When I wrote the song Penny I was 15 years old, and (as most young people are), very confused about everything. I wrote it to assure myself that I would someday get out of my confusion, and that I would one day not be so full of teenaged angst. When I was introduced to Graham Streeter and he heard Penny, he said it fit perfectly with a movie script that he was writing called Cages. He said he wanted to use it in the film.

At first, I didn't understand why he thought it would fit. Then, I read the script, and I understood. The characters in the story all slowly take down their "cages" that they have built around themselves with issues and problems in their lives.

Penny is about believing that a "cage" that a person builds around himself can be taken down, if the person chooses to resolve their issues.
