One Flew Too Many Cuckoos!
07/16/04
Tick tock the mouse running away from the clock! Gosh I simply cannot believe it, we are less than 1 month away from the BIG BANG! Finally I have found my way home after so long caging in my fish tank. To my birdies, I SALUTE you all for all your sweat, laughter and endless cries for sponsors, quotes and the many unbearable blah blah we have to face.
Here are the identified birdies spotted in CAGES:
Graham – Wonderboy and his sidekick (Boogieman)
Tania – Miss Snug (my wonderful confidante and puppy eyed cheeks)
Samantha – Hay wire (hokkien googoo doll)
Iskandar – Mr Machismo (he looks good as a drag but he is such a chaos)
Shawn – Mr Farmer (the gentle giant who is disillusionized)
Teresa – Mother Teresa (good preach to melt the sponsors)
Charmaine – Aunty Teo (weekly report announcer and save the electricity!)
Daryl – Superman (this guy has powers on our servers. Hmm…)
Adrian – Marshmallow Man (oh that tender soft voice)
Wing – Stress ball (he can flatten any stress ball there is in this world!)
Yours Truly – Fishy Ass (something is not right here… I’m serious)
Christel, Vivienna, Jesse – DA GUYS
(don’t understand why they don’t want to be called angels instead)
It’s been raining for the past few days, somehow calming the heat in CAGES itself. Well, I almost drove myself crazy at one point of time, without paying enough attention if the clock did actually stop ticking.
Today we had a meeting with Frameworks, our post-production facilitator. With everyone having the right ideas about how we are going to shoot Ethan’s façade and our beauty shot of crashing into the apartment, it all boils down to one major realism – how can we do this right? This has been the core riddle. Of course, we do have other obstacles as well, but we are treading the trodden trails stably. We are working against time now. It’s like searching for your destination at a deserted cross junction, you just don’t know which way will lead you there safest and faster. That’s what we’re dealing with now. The more recces we go through, the wilder my schedules run. But heck, someone has to do the job.
DA GUYS asked me today what does a production manager do? I go around the world in 80 blinks of their eyes, what the real industry is about. I don’t see any particular line that separates my designation to anyone. Personally, I strongly believe in human relationship, teamwork and communication. What separates people is responsibility. There will be times when I have to detach myself, separate my emotions and sacrifice my poor eyes to feed my responsibility and be caged in my fish tank. Occasionally, I’m Virginia Wolfe in “The Hours”. However, at the end of the day, I know it’s a self pay-off thing. I learn.
I hope everyone shares similar pleasant experience as me, not only that we learn to overcome the trodden trails but we find friendship in each other. And believe me that is what CAGES birdies are all about. We are not only ready to spread our wings but to tell the whole world what a memorable production this will be for us. That is what has driven me – the fighting spirit of each bird (plus my china nasal stick, ahems).
Everyday is a winding road and the journey ain’t longer no more as we draw closer to our EXECUTION DAY – the 40 days shoot! I wish I am the rain machine and the generator on set (wait don’t they make lotsa gees?) Though for now I rather be a free bird. Ironically I completed the schedule based on all the new information I had, especially about SAG’s terms. Guess what? My final day of shoot is where Tan (Makoto Imawatsu) will release his bird from the cage. How ideal for a wrap up shoot huh?
I am dreaming my way home to a sweet home coming – my love shack (my bed if you please). Superman has been so sweet to provide me with a foldable bed which I almost fell off the first night I slept on it. Please check your mattress if it says “HARD”. Yup I have made my territorial mark on the tank and many spots in CAGES sky but heck I may end up making my marks on location grounds too, especially Hoot Kiam. Oh well, who has that kind of opportunity anyways. I’m loving it and I will enjoy the ride as long as it lasts. Oh by the way, what you read about me and my fish tank: ITS NOT TRUE! I do have a life! Lol…
Thanks for all your miraculous efforts birdies. Let’s show not only to the world how wonderful Singapore is, but what amazing end products Singaporeans can deliver. We are unique. Ride the sky. Now fly…
Back to THE Fish Farm…
