The whole day was spent doing nothing substantial. I guess Samantha was feeling drained as well. The contractors have moved in to start work at Hoot Kiam, so there is nothing we can do now at Hoot Kiam until they have finished. At Siglap, until a decision is made whether to paint or to use fabric, work can’t exactly get started there too.
Today is my last day on this production as an intern. It has been a full 2 weeks since I came on board, and I must say I am leaving much more enriched and more mindful of where my passion lies.
It is one thing to love watching movies, but it’s quite another to love making movies. Making movies is a lot of hard work – as with everything else – and what makes the hard work bearable is your passion for what you are doing.
For those who think movie making is all glam and cool obviously do not know what goes on behind the scenes in a film production. Unless you are a big time director/producer, even in Hollywood, the budget for the film is usually small; and an independent film usually accentuates the problem and that will translate into the art department and the other staff having to do everything -- from cleaning the toilet of a super un-used shop house along Hoot Kiam Road to cleaning those damn stickers off the retro furniture we bought from some rag-and-bone warehouse in Tuas to having to get the whole production house staff to go down to the antique shop to pack every single piece of furniture we needed. The end product is usually the result of a very tight team working together.
The last fortnight has been a great lesson on life for me. For all those who afforded me this glimpse into the “high life” of film making, here’s a big thank you.
So till the next time, that’s all for now folks.
