An Intern’s Tale
07/06/04
We transported the improvised painting canvases that were made at the Hoot Kiam location to Ethan’s apartment at Siglap today. Thank goodness it only rained after we were done with the movement – it rained the day before when we were supposed to transport those wooden panels. We tried to do up the Siglap apartment after that but there was a problem with the materials that we got, so that was a no go there.
Sponsors. Something we so urgently require, but still so short in supply. I made so many calls that I lost count, yet there is still nobody willing to just chip in some plants for some free media exposure. It is amazing how difficult it is to convince business people – everything must be a transaction. But I am learning – precisely why I decided to come on as an intern on this production for a month before my school term starts.
It has been less than a week, but just as a previous experience enabled me to realize that what seems like a simple one-minute sequence on television could translate into 3 to 5 hours of filming and editing after that, this past week has been about coming to terms with how much work is needed to go into the creation of a production set.
As a result, watching movies will never be the same again for me. When I watched Spiderman 2 last week, I was constantly thinking what went into the creation of all the props and how much time was needed. I have always loved films, but my short time here is getting me in touch with the reality of making a film. It sure does make acting seem like the easiest thing to do in the entire filming process.
