Tracking with Dickson 10/01/04

Dickson has been amazing on this project. I think I've written about this subject so many times before, but as we come to the end of the shoot I cannot help to realize how lucky I was to find this person.

He stole my heart when I met him...I figured he would steal the hearts of the viewer as well...but what I didn't factor into was that he would steal the hearts of every crew member as well.

Making a movie is like creating a family. Dickson has in so many ways become my son, my friend, my pal. Even when I spend most of my time either helping set up a shot, shooting a shot, or figuring out where the next shot is going to be, and how it is going to be....I always find it inspiring when the scenes come that Dickson and I get to work in, because it brings me back to the reason for making a film.

Cages has provided him opportunities. It has provided me and everyone opportunity. Dickson's life will forever be different based on this powerful experience, his many new friends, his outlook on possibilities. Cages is a self fulfilled prophecy for that matter.

Over the course of this film, Dickson has read a full screen play in braille. He has learned the fundamentals of acting by some of the best actors I can think of. He has aquired the basic knowledge of movie making. He has run in traffic, he has stood on high ledges, he has dodged poles in a park, he has memorized lengthy monologues, he has worn his dreaded wireless microphone.

For me, I have watched him grow up. Like watching a 5 year old son become a 9 year young man. I speak on behalf of everyone on the film project when I say we are so proud of him. He has performed like everyone else on the project. He has given it his all.

He will be very proud one day that he was part of this project. Like I always say, "hard work pays off".

We have 5 more days of shooting...some of those are extended days. The shoots are getting very tough, because health is wearing on everyone, and the rain season is taking it's toll on our lighting and continuity. We continue. We have a film to complete.
